What role did Britain play in Iraq's history?

Iraq was a mandated territory of the League of Nations. Britain was in control from 1918 to independence in 1930. Britain prevented Turkey from trying to regain part of northern Iraq, unlike France which allowed Turkey to reoccupy the Hatay region.
