when i was pregnant, i found out that i was Rh-, my partner is O+, and our son is O-. Recently I found out that my sister is A+ while I am O-, is this possible, I know that my Mum is Rh-, hence why i have it, but why doesn't it pass to each child? Or is there something she is not telling me????

For your partner to be O he must have both an A and a B genotype. for him to be Rh+ he could either be Dd or DD.

For you to be O- you must have both an A and a B and you must be dd in the Rh group.

So, your son got an A from one of you, a B from the other, and a d from each of you and your partner, so he's AB Dd thus O+

You could have children that were A+ A- B+ B- O+ O- but you can not have children that are AB anything with this partner.

Your mom is Rh- but if your dad is Rh+ then the kids could be + or - if the father is Dd (mixed) which expresses in the blood as + Same thing with your partner.

Quite possible.

Rh is a recessive trait.

If both your parents were Rh negative (dd), then all their children would have had to be, being they each had two Rh- genes, one of which would have been passed from each parent to form an Rh- child.

If one parent was heterozygous Rh+ (Dd, i.e. having one Rh+ and one Rh- gene) then that parent passes an Rh- gene (d) 50% of the time. With an Rh- spouse(dd) , that means a 50-50 chance of having an Rh- (dd) or an Rh+ (Dd) child.

Only if one parent was homozygous for Rh+ (DD, i.e. having two Rh+ genes) or both parents were Rh- (dd), would the children ALL be one Rh type (either DD or dd).

It is clear that both your partner and your father are heterozygous Rh+ (Dd).

I am O-, 1 son is O- and other son is O+. so it doesn't always pass on.

If you have another child who is O+, you will need to have an injection of Anti D after the birth so that your body does not reject subsequent children who are O+ as you will develop antibodies to +.
