Firstly, good speaker gives out better sound, but at times the software plays a role.
If you are using Windows Media Player, I would recommend you downloading SRC CircleSurround II plugin to improve you sound system...you will surely experience an extra changer in th out put of your sound.
Then you can add on a woofer to get that fat sound I also have at home.

a Great PCI based Sound Card will add up to ultimate Sound, and specifically BASS and Trebble features.
Get some Good speakers, like those of Creative, or BOSE, and start up to listning good music.

Just get better speakers first. If you're still not happy, you might get a soundcard upgrade but probably isn't necessary. You're never going to get good sound out of crappy speakers!
