practice. in basketball the more you practice the better youll get. me and my friends go to the rec center and practice all the time.
we go run to strengthen our legs (so we dont get tired as often with running) and to help our reflexes we go for a good 'ole game of dodgeball. but to get better, you have to make a choice to practice even when you dont feel like it.

First and foremost, improve your agilities. Dribble two balls simultaneously down the court every day at least 10 reps. Then do the same alternating dribbles. Learning and effective dribble spin, in and out, crossover, and between the legs are also things you can practice for dribbling. It is key to stay committed to good ball handling.

A great shooter needs to take at least 500 shots per day. To start, mark 10 spots on the court inside the 3pt. line. Do not stop shooting from those spots until you can consistently make 8 of 10 with no defender. When you are able to do that, remove the pieces of tape and set them further back. This will increase your range. Also, when practicing jump shots, spin the ball to yourself at an angle and turn towards the basket with a 1-2 step. Many shooters make the mistake of practicing without jumping as high as they can, or without the proper footwork. Remember, defenders aren't going to stand flat-footed and let you shoot! Also, practice your free-throws when you are the most exhausted, as that is when you will shoot them the most during a game situation.

RUN!RUN!RUN! This is the most important element in achieving a successful high school career. There are thousands of 6ft-6.5ft great players in the high school ranks. Speed and agility are everything. Run at least 40-40yd dashes a day. And follow that up with some endurance running. It will also help you drop weight.
For improving your vertical, do some repetitive backboard touches and toe raises. Lifting weights is also a great option for conditioning, weight loss, and improving endurance.

I always lived by the old Reebok motto:
Somewhere someone is practicing...and when you meet them in head to head competition...they will beat you!

Good Luck, hope this helps!

Practice is the answer. Take a look at your weaknesses and improve on them. Remember, there is much more to ballin' than throwing it down. There is footwork, hand/eye coordination, passing. Practice your stuff. Spend time at the court or gym.
I read that Jayson Williams, if I'm not mistaken, who use to play with the Sacramento Kings and now with the Miami Heat use to go to the gym and just practice his passing by throwing at a certain spot on the wall.

Don't worry about throwing it down. That is the problem with this generation and the one before. They were raised on Jordan and his greatness on the court. They didn't witness Dr. J play. They didn't see too much of Larry Bird or Magic. They just know about running and dunking. It wasn't the dunking that made Jordan great. It was his basic skills. He knew his lanes of when/where to pass. He knew how to pass the ball; whether to throw a bullet pass or to bounce it. He knew where his teammates were. It is this, basics that made him great. So don't worry about it and just practice.

If you have any brother or sister you can practice if him or her, like one on one you don't have to be good to just cover someone.
You can get quicker by running in a swimming pool. You can also put a trash bag on you by cutting it like a shirt, then put it under your shirt and you will sweat a ton. You get conditioning and if not you can lose a lot of wieght

well i would suggest for you to get either help from an expert or just get a basketball tape and practice the drills over and over again. I would also ask that to myself but i would just practice and practice the drills until i get better. well hopefully you will take my advice.

Practice is always the best way , but it helps to have someone to teach you what to practice. Find a coaching sorce or training info on he net. Then practice what you learn ...as much as you can.
