Read as much of a variety of books, magazines, newspapers, texts, and online as you can. Keep yourself informed of current events, health news, and changes in all subject matter.

If your local community college shows telecourses on TV, watch them all. PBS is another way to keep up with quality broadcasting. Often, you can find used text books at thrift stores, etc.

It all comes back to you with practice. You've just been so involved with the kids, that you haven't had the time to exercise your brain. Am I right in assuming that the kids are nearly old enough for school now? If so, you have several hours per day to do studying for yourself. :)

While getting older may stop you from remembering things, playing mind games such as crosswords, puzzles, and sodoku will improve your IQ if you do them consistently.
