Barcelona or Roma...
if you go to Rome, make sure you don't miss the Vatican Museums and St Peters Basilica...
Rome Revealed or Enjoy Rome do excellent tours...
If you go to Barcelona, take a day trip to Girona to escape the madness of the city...
Happy Trails

I've been to all three cities and rate them in this order: Lisbon, Rome then Barcelona. I live in Portugal and generally prefer the relax atmosphere. Rome was good, but hectic and full to the brim of tourists and mad italian drivers (watch out if you cross the road you are liable to be targeted by anyone with a motor). Barcelona was nice, but too many scam artists on the go for my liking. I have to say though they all have their plus points, but for an enjoyable, stress free weekend, Lisbon would definitely be my destination.

I went to Barcelona last February and loved it! It's a very relaxed and friendly city, the subway system is great but it's actually quite a small place so you could walk everywhere(weather permitting!) You should check the average temperatures/rainfall etc on the BBC website weather page. In Barcelona there are lots of tiny side streets that have lots of lovely shops. The food is good as well and relatively cheap. Drinks in pubs are great, if you get a vodka they don't give you a pub measure they ask you to say when!!!! I have never been to Rome so I can't tell you where would be better but I can say that I loved Barcelona and would love to back there again one day very soon!!

Lisbon! It's a great City with beautiful buildings. It has a great tram system, absolutely loads to see and do. You can visit the Oceanaream and the whole area around this is great fun for kids and adults. The restaurants are all high quality and the nightlife is interesting without being too busy or intimidating. I found it more sedate and easier to get around without the hoardes of people. Some of the views are also quite stunning. We went in early Feb but I imagine in Spring this city would be stunning.

Have lived in Rome for a year many years ago, I am planning to go back next year with my Mrs. for a Birthday treat for her.
lisbon or Barcelona would be cheaper though but there is so much more to do in Rome. Been there for a year and still haven't seen everything. A marvellous place.

Of your 3 choices, Barcelona is definitely #1. Roma is #3 to my way of thinking. So, I strongly recommend Barcelona for its night life, Mediterranean beach lifestyle, and easy going people. Our 20 YO son went on a recent tour of Amsterdam, Paris and Barcelona. He recommends Barcelona over the others.
Maybe our son's high school Spanish helped.
