What is your view on poverty in America and what do you think would be a good start at solving this problem?

My view on it as well as many is that it can be prevented! In America we do have plenty of opportunities more than plenty of other countries. There is really no reason where we have to be dealing with poverty. I might sound cold but it’s the truth. When I see people on the corner of the street with signs while I am on my way to WORK...I don’t feel sorry for them…people need to take advantage of the opportunities they pass on everyday…stop making excuses for how you got there and get it together!

A lot of people don't have to be in that position period! The ones I do feel sorry for is the innocent children that are born in these situations! The parents need to be smart about the decisions they are making and get out of poverty! I saw a show about a week ago with Diane Sawyer and well it broke my heart to see how a lot of helpless children are suffering because their parents made very bad choices and still waiting for hand outs. If it was that easy everyone would be doing it! Some people need to realize that they must work hard to have a better life. If millions of people can do so why can’t they!

I was a bill collector in the 70's

America's poor had cars, televisions, radios, cable TV, carpet on their floors, junk food, jewelry, air-conditioned dwellings, homes . . .

The only difference between the poor and the 'not poor' was the desire to spend money in a sane manner. I use to sit with people and try to help them understand and they refused to want to know. One in fifty paid any attention, or had an open desire to want to live differently.

And a lot of the money I saw came from government programs designed to "help" . . . when this was brought to the attention of politicians . . . they could also care less . . . those were their voters!

There is no 'solution'. But we should stop helping people waste money . . . cut the FREE government programs . . . demand work for money. Work for money is a good teacher.

As of the last census
20% of the nation controls 80% of the wealth
20% of the nation controls 1% of the wealth
60% of the nation controls the remaining 19% of the wealth

I'd say it's about time for a major redistribution of the wealth.

The top 20% like to say that in a very few years, if that happened, the distribution would revert to where it was.

I'd like to take them up on that challenge!!

Leave good enough alone is my advice. In order for the economy to work there must be poor people.
