My computer is like 3-4 years old. It used to be fast but now it is really slow is there anything i can download to try to speed it up.

You can stop certain services from running automatically that would help to some extent. Do a disk clean up and defragmentation, these will help as well.
If you truly want to get more speed though, I would recommend increasing your memory. Memory is not expensive and will be a good investment to accommodate future upgrades.
to clean your disk go to Start>Accessories>System Tools>disk clean up. Once that is complete repeat the process and choose disk defrag this time instead of disk clean up.
you might also want to back up large data and other files to a CD to free up space on your hard drive. investing in a bigger internal or external hard drive would also be an asset.
no matter what size disk or memory you have you should regulard clean up and defrag the disk. These to the pc is like an oil and spark plub change to your car. disk clean removes absolete files and empties your recycle bin while defrag places files that are related closer together so that loading an application for example takes less time.

Nothing you download will make it run faster, but you could cut back on the amount of programs you have running at start up. The best thing would be to add more RAM to your system, it is the easiest upgrade and really helps system performance a lot.

go to start, run, type prefetch, delete everything in that folder..make sure there is nothing in your start up menu, programs running in the background can slow you down, also buy some more ram, a 512MB upgrade will speed things up ALOT! do not download anything claiming it will speed your pc up its just junk!

you can try :
1. start menu => run => type in "msconfig" and from startu remove all the crap you do not need
2. defrag your hdd.
3. make shoure you have at some free space on c drive ( more then 500M )
