dxdiag will have sound tabs at the top of the page.Choose sound1, then click test.Make sure of course your speakers are turned up. If you don't get any sound then you've definitely got something wrong. You say you've checked all the connections so if nothing else works use your system restore to back up your system to before you had this problem. You can find this by clicking on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools.Just follow the prompts. The change you make can be reversed any time you want so don't worry about messing something up.

Make sure that...

the speakers are plugged into the appropriate jack on the back of
the computer

that the speaker volume button is turned up

that the volume control on the program that you are using is turned up

that your volume control panel is not muted.

Make sure you plugged your speakers into the speaker out jack. Also, go to the control panel for sound and make sure that your sound is turned up and not on mute.

Is your mute on? Click on the little speaker in the icon tray and see if anything for mute is checked.
