I have a wall mount Natural gas heater in one of our apartments we rent. We added electric heat to the apartments and are no longer using the gas heaters. I want to put it in my home as a source of back up heat. We dont have gas in our neighborhood so I would need to use propane and I am wondering If it can be converted to Propane. Thanks.

Yes just change the orfice in the burner and pilot if there is one. You may have a heater with an electric start. Most Propane Companys offer the service to convert your heater for a small fee. You can check with them

All gas appliances are tested and list by the American Gas
Association or another certified agency,Check the label on the appliance.Any change to this appliance would have to be certified
by the company who made it.In your specifications booklet you
should find what kind of gas it is set-up to run.If you change the feed nozzle or limiting valves without the manufacturing companies written approval then you have voided the warranty
and possibly caused a fire hazard.Call the company who made
the appliance and find out if it can be legally converted. You do not
want to be responsible for a fire or CO poisoning.
Good Luck

Yes you can. Get the manufacturers name, model number, and serial number and e-mail me with that. I can find out where you can get a propane conversion kit. This is an easy task that a DIY can perform. I will walk you through it. It is as simple as pulling out a spring in the gas valve and putting in a different spring. The burner orifices will need to be screwed out and propane fitted orifices put in which is also easy.

It all depend on the brand and how the connections are in the unit. I would suggest giving a call to your local LP (propane) company. They would be able to give you the info you need.

Check with the manufacturer for the right conversion kit. or consult your propane dealer or gas company. It is not as simple as changing a jet.

It is illegal for an unqualified person to work on a gas appliance. I have worked on massive pressurised gas installations in industry and I would not touch this with a barge pole.
