I have a ten gallon aquarium and I wonder if their food supply is being depleted as they eat algae. I do not have any live plants in the aquarium. Would this help? I really don't think that the guppies are eating them. All I wind up with is empty shells. Please help.

Yes. Your snails are being eaten by guppies. But probably only when they are dead. What is the temp of your water? Snails like warm water. And no salt. Salt bad. You could try algea disks too.

It took me 4 snails before I got a petstore guy smart enough to figure out why mine were dying. Goldfish eat them. Agressively.

Are you buying them from cups, like they sell bettas in? Snails need a lot of food to survive. If they are sold in cups they usually only have a little sprig of a plant in with them. In the cups I've seen, the plant isn't even one that snails eat. Basically the snails are already starved when you get them from this situation and they are too far gone to bring them back.

Algae is only a snack to snails and need to be feed food. Stuff like algae wafers and shrimp pellets are good but you can also feed them fresh veggies, even dandelion leaves (as long as they haven't been treated with pesticides) from in your yard are good for an extra treat now and then.

They like fresh veggies alot. Try cutting up some zucchini and tie it to the side of one of your tanks decorations so it doesn't float to the top of the tank. You wont need too much a small piece everyday is good enough. After a couple hours remove it so it does not start to spoil.
