A Euro-Metric 215/40R17XL (service rating of 87) would be the best in terms of maintaining overall diameter and load carrying capacity. With this size the speedometer variance will be nil - 869 vs 872 revs per mile.

A Euro-metric standard load tire might be OK (service rating 83 instead of 87) if you increase the tire inflation but I don't have load/inflation tables for this size. Do not use a P-metric tire size P215/40R17 with a service rating of 79. That tire will not have nearly enough load carrying capacity no matter how much air you put in it. Most options will be euro-metric anyway.

*****EDIT*****

The Standard Load 215/40R17 83 probably won't work. At any pressure above 36 psi the load capacity is only 1074 pounds, which is only equivilant to a 205/50R16 87 at 31 psi or a P205/50R16 86 at 29 psi. You need to make sure you get the 215/40R17XL 87 and you will need to run it at a higher pressure than the 16-inch tire - run about 5 psi higher than the stock tire pressure recommendation.
