No, tampons themselves are a risk to your vaginal health no matter what, but the longer you leave them in the higher those risks become.

Manufacturers sometimes advise it is safe to use a tampon for this length of time as they market their products to be convenient rather than worry about the health risks of this, manufacturers have a long history of risking women's health, thus why it is important for women to understand the risks themselves.

Tampons prevent your vagina from cleaning itself out, absorb vaginal fluids that are needed to keep vaginal walls moist, give bacteria a place to multiply, leave fibres within the vagina, introduce chemicals into the vagina, etc. Thus why tampons are linked with TSS, vaginal infections, problem periods, etc.

The longer you leave a tampon in for the longer the time bacteria have to multiply within your vagina, as tampons prevent normal vaginal self-cleaning and defence mechanisms this is a significant problem – more so when you take into consideration blood is a different pH to your vagina and commercial tampons contain chemicals that can affect vaginal pH, in turn affecting vaginal flora meaning 'bad' bacteria can take over from 'good' bacteria.

The only internal menstrual options you can keep in for more than 4 hours safely are menstrual cups, softcups or diaphragms used as menstrual cups; these can be left in for up to 12 hours safely. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstrual_cup

Using tampons for longer than a few hours further risks contracting TSS or developing a vaginal infection such as bacterial vaginosis. Commercial tampons such as Tampax further increase your risk due to materials used and chemical treatment. If you have to ask this question you should not be considering using tampons at all.

There is a condition called Toxic Shock Syndrome which is very rare, but associated with tampon use. Likewise, we are instructed not to wear tampons for more than 8 hours (I recall the packaging on mine saying 6 hours), to use the lowest absorbency necessary, and to alternate tampon use with sanitary napkins. Even though there are only a handful of TSS cases today, it is a serious (even potentially fatal) condition, so why risk it?

A tampon might nicely be worn for as much as eight hours yet from now on time after which you will danger having TSS (poisonous ask your self syndrome)! warning signs of TSS mimic the flu. even nonetheless TSS is uncommon, it relatively is doubtlessly deadly. in basic terms make certain to're changing your tampon often and using an absorbency that suits your bypass. better of success!

No. You should change your tampon at least 4 times a day. Even if you have a light flow and don't fill your tampon. The best way to remember to change is: In the morning when you wake up, lunch time, dinner time and bed time.

No. You run the risk of toxic shock syndrome. Even if you feel that your flow is not heavy enough to change the tampon after about 3-4 hours, change it anyway.
