For an observer in Albany, on June 21 2007, with an unobstructed (i.e., mathematically "perfect") horizon, the azimuth of the Sun when the upper limb first becomes visible is 56°, or Northeast by east.

Other observers in New York state have nearly the same view; from NYC, the azimuth of sunrise will be 57°.

Because it is so far away and therefor the subtended arc angle from North to south on Earth so relatively small, it will appear to 'rise' due East of you and everyone else on Earth that day. If you miss it, send me an email and let me know what you are smoking or drinking........
