Besides scrubbing them with Brillo pads and warm water in the sink (yuck), I take them outside and lay them on old newspapers, then spray oven cleaner on them and let them set. Then apply a pressurized hose or wipe them down with a bucket of warm water and a cloth.

Hi! the best way for me, (i Have a self cleaning oven and don't run the cleaning cycle with the racks inside. So what I do , is turn the oven on to about 400 and leave the racks in- then after they have heated up- put newspaper on the garage or basement floor- then I spray them with reg. oven cleaner(both sides). While those are "soaking in the spray- run the clean cycle on the oven. After about 1/2-1 hr. later I get the racks and wash them in reg. dish soap. They come out perfectly clean and very shiny!! The best part is no scrubbing!! It really works!! Hope this helps you.

Take the oven racks out and put in a large trash bag either spray with oven cleaner or pour some house hold ammonia in the bag and let sit over night..The built up grime should then be easy to wash off.

Go to your local DIY store Homebase I know has them, others may. Get a polythene underbed storage drawer on wheels, and some Caustic Soda. Position the drawer near a drain, put your shelves in, cover with water. Remove shelves, put in tub of caustic soda (Gloves, Wellies, Goggles) mix well, add the shelves etc, cover and leave overnight.
Rinse in the morning, light wipe, collect brownie points...job done.
Empty Caustic down drain, will clean drain anyway!!!!!

Spray the shelves with oven cleaner and place in a trash bag. Leave for several hours (or overnight). The grime should wash right off. I do mine outside and just spray with a garden hose.

Cillit Bang. The cystals are good, but make it hard to clean off if you cant remove the shelves. I use the grime spray on the door and every possible surface in my kitchen, and I have never in my life seen such a good universal cleaner. I would use gloves though.

i find the best way to clean my oven shelves, is to fill youre bath with hot water, enough to cover the shelves, add a cupfull of washing powder, and leave to soak for a while, and you will find that this makes it so much easier to clean,

Buy some Bounce, they are tissues that you put in the tumble dryer. Soak the shelves with a couple of the tissues in the water, leave over night. It works on burned pans too
