also Hamleys in London, ground floor at the back has a wicked tarantula glove puppet he can freak people out with

Maybe things like getting him into power kiting (get advice you really don't want to get him anything too powerful...

so by the time hes 18 he can be kite surfing and doing jumps that would clear your house

Likewise skateboards, snowboards

a pretty nifty gift is an uncirculated coin set for his birth year. it's something he can keep forever and will appreciate in value

I find another things that kids that age are interested in in cool fossils like trilobites and geodes. Also a starter stamp collection is cool too.

An autographed picture or item from his favorite star or sports player is cool too.

on the higher end of price is a combination digital camera, camcorder and mp3 player. A fairly inexpensive one is Mustek. The kids can then make "movies" and seem to enjoy it.

The best birthday would be just to have a special time with him. maybe go out to eat, take a walk or hike (buy him his own disposable camera so he can take his own photos)

Well if he already has everything, Maybe just taking him out for dinner or organizing a big birthday party for him would be good. Call in a clown or something

my first answer would have been a savings bond. but after thinking for a moment maybe it wouldnt be so bad to get him a four wheeler, dirt bike or even a golf cart will work. if you have room for him to ride it.
