During half time at the Super Bowl XLI, Prince sang a segment of "The Best of You" by the Foo Fighters. Did Prince write that song? Or did Foo give him permission to sing it?

The Foo wrote Best Of You, as they did all songs on the In Your Honor album.
Prince would have most definately needed permission to cover it, especially on live TV. Even if the Foo knew how much of a slaughter it would be they would have more than likely felt obliged to give permission due to them doing a cover of Prince's Darling Nikki on their Have It All Single in 2003.

He probably really liked the song. It's a compliment to the Foo Fighters though because Prince has a catalog of a gazillion songs... He didn't need to...Also, people that may not have given a flying __ about Prince yesterday are talking about him today. Universal and versatile...The guy doesn't mind performing a song he admires.

Prince was not too charmed witht he Foo Fighters covering one of his songs. Prince got back at them by covering Best of You, preceded by the classic All along the Watchtower.
Watchtower was originally a Bob Dylan song, but after Jimi Hendix covered it, the song will always be remembered by Jimi Hendix' version. By starting with Watchtower, Prince put his cover of Best of You in that context, suggesting that from now on that song will be remembered by his interpretation. And his version rocks!!! Prince pulled a Jimi on the Foo Fighters

Because he is without a doubt the greatest musician/entertainer of all time! When have you ever heard a Superbowl Performance where the entire stadium was singing along. And he did this in the pouring rain! Enough said

Boy, is THAT undesirable information for the Raider usa! I doubt Al will ever see a triumphing season, for the time of his tenure, no longer to instruct a SB? I agree, perhaps he's been useless for years, already.

I don't know why he sang, it but I was wondering the same. I do think, however, that it nicely showed off his guitar skills. I thought he did a great job... my husband didn't like it.
