I was a member of a forum website where i posted about 300 or so posts and topics and help the owner design his forums as a moderator and admin, if i am no longer with the site as a member, what can i do about my posts being left for all to see still? Can i force the owner to delete all my posts? If so how can i do this? I have asked 4 times now to delete all my posts and still nothing has been done in the past week! HELP!!

I understand its all public domain but when i have helped the owner design it and added 300 plus posts with my educating members dont i have the right to have it removed? Dont i have the right to ask him to delete all my work i did on the website while i was admin? I really do not wish for my name and all to be still present on the site for all to see!!

When posting on their site in a public forum, you effectively waive your right to control of intellectual property, and possible any rights whatsoever to that property.

I posted an article on Wikihow, which is a big "how-to" manual that allows editing of articles by the membership. I had my article changed to the point that it took an opposing view to my original intent, so I changed it back. It went back and forth until I e-mailed the site management.

This was their response:

"You do not have the power to set conditions for the terms on which we will host your article....

"You must expect your writing to be modified, criticized, or improved by others.

"Since your article, which is now a permanent addition to wikiHow, will be able to be edited by anyone.......and I DO mean anyone, mischievous people and middle schoolers included, you may wish to ask yourself whether you wish to have your name permanently attached to the article. Will you be around to monitor it and roll back all edits as they come up? Probably not."

Nope. As soon as you post something online, it's there for all to see, unless you personally delete it (or it gets removed for violation forum rules or the law).

Also, the owner (who could also be titled main Administrator) of the forum has jurisdiction of what's on his site. If he chooses to keep your posts up, there's nothing you can really do about it.

When you say something online, it's kind of like saying it in a crowded room. Others will hear it (in this case see it), and there's really no taking it back. You wouldn't expect Yahoo! Answers to delete your questions/answers if you left this site, would you?

Usually most sites delete post/threads that are created by that user when they terminate their account. If the owner of the site hasn't deleted your post, there is nothing you can do about it. No, you can't force the owner to delete your post. If you didn't post anything inappropriate or something (such as a threat) that would usually be against the law, you have nothing to worry about!

You are right, it should be deleted. Unless he bought it. Contact the owner and tell him to delete all you post or you are going to sue. Contact the web site and let them know about this, they should be able to do something.
