You could always do it in a very simple but sincere way... But here's what I got to say

For a very romantic (Yet somehow expensive, i think) and cozy valentine's day with your wife, you'd better come up with crazy yet unforgettable surprises beneath your sleeves! I saw this really nice way from a showbiz program:
What the guy did was, he purposely planned a date with his girlfriend, only that he promised it to be simple one (turns out, it's the exact opposite) The place was inside a hotel, the best place would be that of which has a best view... When the girl arrived, she was very much surprised to be ushered by the hotel staff. She was led through a series of stairs laid with fresh pink petals (rose), up until the room. As she arrived, a candle-lit dinner's already set and the guy was just standing at the corner, holding a white rose... that's all! seems more like a courtship to me! hehe

Hopefully you are aware of her likes and interests. Try to think about something she may have mentioned, or shown interest in, something she would not normally do for herself, or take the time for herself, and find a way to give her that.

Or: give her an iou book, one that she can redeem with you later when she is feeling in need of a break, such as you do the cooking, dishes, laundry, a day of doing anything she wants no demands. If you have kids add in there an afternoon kid free to herself, where you take the kids out bowling or something and let her just relax.

or : check out if there are places not to far where she can get a day at a spa,

or : get her an appointment with a massuese,
after wards take her to dinner, so she can stay relaxed not worry about dishes etc.

silk roses with a personal note, can be one, or more, I had gotten a silk flower, left in the front gate, with a note, that a cut rose will wither and fade, the silk will still be there just as he will still be there for me.

Ask women I am sure they would find that hand written note along those lines to be something they would remember and treasure.

or surprise her, sure make plans to take her to dinner or what ever for valentines day.

But the day before or a couple of days before give her something, doesn't need to be big flashy or expensive, can be something like the silk rose I mentioned, let her know you are giving her this not on valentines day purposely because it is not just that one day a year that you remember how special she is.

Or if you do take her out, give her a gift whatever on valentines day, you could instead try giving that small something with the idea that it is not just on valentines day she is special later on a week or even early march.

Don't do it in lieu of doing something on valentine's day as it can negate the gesture.

If she collects or has a fondness for anything that can be the smaller later or before or extra gift.

Make her dinner- set the table w/ candles and pictures of the two of you over the years, make her breakfast- serve her in bed....do you have kids? If so get a babysitter! LOL. Buy her flowers...make a valentine with some paper and doillies. Buy her underwear. Light a bunch of candles in your bedroom at night. Put chocolates on her pillow. Draw a bubble bath for her and bring the radio into the bathroom and play some nice music. Make a CD of your favorite love songs. Write on a piece of paper why you are so happy that you married her and give it to her. Go for a couples massage. Go for a nice drive- park the car and make out like you did when you were first dating. Rent the first movie you ever saw together- better yet, buy it for her. Play your wedding song. Sing her your wedding song- in bed- naked. Do a strip tease. Tell her she is more beautiful than the day you married her.

Write her a poem about how much (yeah, you'll have to lie) she means to you.

Get her a ring out of those machines at Jewel.

Write her name across your chest in Sharpie, because Sharpie = permanent.

DO NOT shoot her dog. I did this last Valentines day for my girl friend (It was an accident!) and I lost her.

Put a bow on your wang.

Light some candles. Candles are romantic.

You should get a guy or friend to dress up in a teddy bear suite and sing a love song and give her candy and balloons
And then the friend or guy will say its from you
Oh and it mostly works out if the girl answers the door to the suprise aka the tedddy bear

speaking as a wife, this is what i recommend. a nice dinner just the two of you at a nice restaurant. surprise her with a rose when it's time to leave the house, treat it like you two are just dating before you got married. when you get the restaurant, surprise her with a gift (something along the lines of jewelry a necklace or a bracelet), something that can be hid in your pocket of your jacket. treat her like you are just dating and wanting to impress her, trust me it'll make her feel like a queen. that's what women like on valentine's day and anniversaries, to be made to feel like a queen.

I know most men are bad at this but remember a time back to when you were dating to a moment she really enjoyed and recreate it. A lot of women appreciate stuff like that. Try doing something you have not done in a while. Good luck.

do a bunch of sappy cheesy romantic stuff like you would if you were teens. it will make her laugh and appreciate that you have enough guts to make her feel good.

flowers, candy, chocolate, balloons, teddy bears, poems, candles, romantic dinners are all good ideas as well.

just make sure its thoughtful

A hot air balloon ride, tickets to a concert she really wants to go to, make her a candlelight dinner.

Broads love that stuff.
