I know exercise will help, but can someone give me suggesstions on what I can make and eat? And what I should not be eating or looking into? Thanks..

There are some easy things you can do for yourself and your family. I will go to a few web sites (cookinglight.com and allrecipes.com) and select recipes for the week, allrecipes.com will even make a shopping list for you. I find I am more apt to sticking to my list that way and only buying what I need and not a bunch of junk...as far as having snacking stuff...I have an Eight year old so that is a must..I will buy a pound of rapes and freeze them, I love frozen grapes!!! I also buy some sort of healthy cereal like a rice or corn chex and we snack on that. Yogurt is my favorite. Nuts, any kind a hand full of peanuts or cashews are a great healthy snack. If you drink soda, stop or change to diet. In one soda you are consuming 200 or more empty calories per soda. You will notice a big difference when you stop that. Crystal light has these awsome single drink packets, if you don't like to drink plain water all the time. If you drink juice water it down. I hope this has helped some. Good luck and good for you to care enough about you and your family to make some positive changes.

Chicken has just as much cholesterol as any other meat. Many of us have been duped by the meat industry to believe that it is a healthier meat. Western civilization and its rich diet has led us to the path of sickness and disease. We eat way to much animal protein (meat, animal fat, dairy, etc) having ben led to believe this is good for us. What we need to do is go back to eating more of a basic diet of whole grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes with healthy vegetable fats (corn oil or other oils is not healthy). Avocados, nuts and the like are good fats for the body, but can be limited if one desires weight loss. I suggest Dr. John McDougalls recipes that are focused on sustaining health.

First off, good for you! I know a lot of people who are diabetic or borderline who absolutely refuse to eat differently. I commend you for wanting better health.
My recommendation would be to give up pork and beef altogether. If you're die hard in that area, you can consume them in moderation...but make sure they are very lean cuts of meat. Chicken, fish and turkey are excellent for you and you can pretty much eat as much of that as you'd like. Just make sure that you are not frying them! Baking, boiling, broiling, grilling, crock-potting (is that a verb?) and pan searing are all good options. You can eat as many veggies as you'd like...but take it easy on the fruit. Sometimes, the natural sugar in fruit is just as bad as the refined sugar we find in our cookies and whatnot. As someone who is prone to the disease, that could mess with your glucose levels.
My last suggestion would be to cut out the junk food. Period. I know that sounds harsh and difficult, but processed foods are horrible for your body. Also try to stay away from foods that were processed with white flour - pastas, breads, bagels, etc. Opt for the wheat or multi-grain variety.
I hope that helps and good luck!

You can eat all the vegetables you want. Mix in a few whole grains along with a little chicken or fish and you're all set. Avoid other meats and dairy... they're not good for you.

If you don't desire to give up meat completely, then you absolutely must give up eating pork.

Pork not only increases the LDL bad cholesterol, but it contributes to heart disease and high blood pressure.

Yeah, they say it's the other white meat. That doesn't make it the right meat.

Certain cuts of pork can be very lean. Fish filets are great, too! Just google low fat recipes or low cal recipes.
