Barry G. has the right idea, it's basically that the overheads are reduced, a bit like the difference between renting a shop and all that entails or a market stall - a much simpler alternative.

I disagree with Barry on the quality of the goods question though, the normal attitude is to provide the same goods and services but with an increased profit margin and increased turnover.

Because they have lower space cost's, and only sell second's and end of range lines.
