It could mean alot of things.
You could miss them and so you dream of them because you are sad or its a way for you to cope with it.
Also it could mean that they are always with you so maybe they are trying to tell you not to be sad and that they are still with you.
Also if you believe this they could be trying to tell you something but it all depends on what you believe.
Its not a bad thing to dream about someone that passed on. I think it helps to cope with it.

Keep a dream journal. And as soon as you wake up write down your dreams. When you go back to read it later, it will make more sense. I do agree with the others in that often it is just the loved one trying to communicate with you and let you know they are with you. If you feel there is something more to it, or the dreams are frequent, then try the dream journal. It just might surprise you!

It's normal. But if you feel that the dreams are excessive, or if they are bothersome to you, you can do a self analysis. Do you have guilt feelings associated with any of the people/pets? Any unresolved issues that plague you? Things that you wish you would have said or done? In either of those cases, you can release any adverse feelings by speaking your forgiveness--both of yourself and of the departed--OUT LOUD. Words are spirit. Sometimes we block them up inside, out of shame or embarassment, or even anger, and are tormented in our sleep. Release whatever is bugging you, as though you are talking to whomever you need to--your sentiments are honored and you are then released. Also, while the people who've passed on are no longer present in their natural bodies, every memory that you have of them still speaks to you when you need a special word of advice, encouragement, etc. Hold on to what's dear, let go of what's not. You certainly would appreciate the same treatment of your life, once you've departed, no? Guilt, shame, and anger are all 'negative' feelings that are useful to inform us of what's hidden inside, but should not be feelings that we allow to produce anguish or anxiety in our lives. Let them have their temporal place, for the benefit of your growth, and then move on. Be blessed!

To see your dead sibling, relative, or friend alive in your dream, indicates that you miss them and are trying to relive your old experiences you had with them. In trying to keep up with the pace of your daily waking life, you dreams may serve as your only outlet in coping and coming to terms with the loss of a loved one.

Yeah that means you actually visited deceased loved ones. They communicate through dreams.
I've had dreams of our family friend and her 4 year old son when they both passed away from smoke inhalation. They were "visiting" me.
And my family had dreams of them too. They had a traumatic death that they couldn't rest in peace yet.
After the funeral, they both rest in peace and me and my family felt peaceful.
Dreaming of deceased loved ones doesn't necessarily mean that they didn't rest in peace, I'm just telling you my experience. Your loved ones and your pets probabably visit you to let you know they're alive and ok on the other side.
Maybe they felt that you missed them, so they visited you.
We don't "die" after we die, we just go on to another dimension where they're everlasting peace, love and happiness. No negativity there.

I've had that happen only a few times. The dream seems more real that other dreams. I believe it's a visitation telling you that they are fine. It may be the easiest way to communicate with you.

Maybe the dreams are trying to tell you something.
Your past relatives may have a message for you.
There is a site called Dreamdoctor that may be able to help you with that question.
Good luck

Dreams like these can really be a contact with these entities, but remember, everything you see in a dream is you, be it a pursueing monster or a pleasant valley.

I've been visited by my Grandparents in dreams. I think it's just them keeping watch and letting me know they're ok. Call me crazy, but I know it's real.
