Tell him the longer you both wait the older he will be with little kids in the house. Would he rather carry a diaper bag at age 40 or age 47? The clock never stops ticking. Perhaps he is afraid that one more baby will lead to another, and another. Emphasize that you are asking for ONE baby so that your son can have the experience of a sibling.

Remind him that as they grow up, kids are easier to manage. They learn to entertian themselves, feed and dress themselves and even help out around the house.

I'm sure the two of you can work this out... Good luck!

Fact: The son you now have will likely be around at least 20-25 years before he leaves home, so partner will be early 60's before this child is gone.

How would you like to be a single parent when you are 40?
Unfortunately, he cannot "opt out" of being the child's legal parent just because you would "like" another baby now.

Fact: Children do not remain "babies" for very long in the overall scheme of things, though the do remain dependents for MUCH longer.
If you would like more children, go work in a daycare center or consider opening a daycare center. You will get MORE than enough exposure to children. If that's too much, start a babysitting service.

It is not clear that you have considered the long-term consequences of any child in your care. BABY wears off quite soon, then you have an increasingly independent person to deal with. Unless your partner is ready to be a father of another child, it puts both children at risk.
You think that you will hate him at 40? How about he resents the whole father responsibility RIGHT NOW if you talk him into a pregnancy that he clearly does not want?

give him some time to get used to the idea of another baby in the house . you are still young to have kids . maybe you need to invite some friends with smaller babies to the house and see how he reacts
