Studies never lose their significance. A person is always on some learning curve. At the same time, knowledge is expanding very fast. One has to keep pace or else face the risk being outdated and less efficient in work and at job.
Studies make a joyful menu. Some people consider them food for the mind.
They protect the mind from going astray in unhealthy thoughts and provide a person with equipment necessary to understand and interact with greater information and better logic.
Depending upon what we choose for studies, good literature choice creates a 'great person', someone different from the rest.
Yes, the form, type, and content of studies will be substantially determined by what do we do on a daily basis! However, there is no known bar on studies; only we create our own barriers!

Socrates, an old Greek philosopher you may call him, once said "A life which is not being studied, does not worth to live". As much as we know, Socrates was the first educator, in the matter of spread thinking around him. In what he said he did`nt mean one who does`nt study should`nt live, I think he meant whoever lives - studies. Every minute, by thinking, seeing, smelling, reading, and so on. Is this fact helpfull when going to the grocery? If one does not learn, he won`t know if he likes better cheese or beef. He could not ask for help on the subject, cause he does not speak any language. He won`t find his way home, cause he does not know any directions. So - it`s not only mankind job studying. Every organism does it on behalf of it`s own needs. Well, our brain is the most developed one, so our needs go beyond basic surviving. But still needs they are.

Whatever we do / act / learn / teach / think goes to build and is represented by our common sense at any given time. As such nothing you do is unimportant.
As far as possible we must think if an action or inaction is going to contribute in a positive way in this regard before doing it.
Hope this helps....
