It is very important especially in translating from one language to another. The person doing the translating needs to understand not only the words but the way they are used. Also things such as sarcasm which is very American but not so much in other cultures. The students need to understand these concepts and the way the English person is using the language. That is why so many countries employ "teacher" or "foreign experts" in their schools. While the person may not actually be a teacher in their own country, it gives the kids a chance to see at least a taste of the culture.

What all the leaders of Britain could not achieve in years past, the Internet has done for them in just over 22 years.

Internet 's main language world wide is English and people are learning it fast, they are not using King's or Queen's English but sure they are using it the best way they can.

So it cannot hurt.

Pertaining to what country or culture? Are you referring to Americans learning "proper" English and using it in the workplace? Or do you mean immigrants from other countries coming to US and learning English to gain employment? Or do you mean other countries like Italy or Germany learning English to advance their employment opportunities within their own countries?

Something totally different?
