I heard people saying every other month but as far as I know the pony that I'm leasing and going to buy is only once a year(or maybe twice). I was just wondering because I will worm him the recommended amount when he is at my farm.

If you have a happy healthy horse, once a year is sufficient. If you are not sure about the horses health and it is grass grazing with other horses then every six months just to be sure.

Not worming your horse is very bad. If you go with a strong vet wormer that your vet will have to administer then yes I can see how the horse could have been wormed once or twice a year. Many people put worming off, and do it as little as possible. Some people go on daily wormer (something I really like as it is easy and convienient, but don't forget you'll still need you vet to worm your horse twice a year). If you look at advice from professionals who train halter horses they worm every month. I have just started to do this with my mare and it has made a huge difference in her. Her coat is much shinier and her attitude is alot better. If you don't worm properly then your horse can have alot of health problems. I rescued a horse that hadn't been wormed and it had lost about 300lbs in less than 2 months because if this! I find that the best and most importantly the best value of wormer is at www.horse.com. They have a year long wormer pack that gives you all the wormer that you'll need for the year, and tells you which months to give which kind of wormer. Good luck with your new pony!

Depends on how prevelant worms are at your farm- run a stool sample at the vet for each pasture- if one horse has it, they all will. If you do not have worms on your farm (and make sure you worm the pony the week before you bring her to yours w/ an all around like equimax) you could go with every 3-4 months. If you have worms present at your farm (there should not be if your stable takes care of their animals), or see a high traffic of horses going through, get a daily wormer, or do a paste wormer every 21/2 months or so.

Once or twice a year is not really enough- at the very least, do one in spring, midsummer, and fall. Winter is not all that important if you get snow and everything freezes, but it it doesn't get that cold by you, you want one in winter as well (so 4 times a year)

Your worming schedule depends on your horse and his natural environment. I deworm my horses every 6-8 weeks. No dewormer removes 100% and there are many different kinds available. You should consult your vet and have him do fecal egg counts. While you should transition dewormers, doing this too often can result in creating strains of parasites that are resistent to multiple products.
You really need to consult your vet on what will be best and most effective for your pony. Only he will be able to tell you.

Every 6 weeks is recommended in MOST regions. You must rotate wormers to kill various types of parasites and to prevent parasites from developing an immunity.

Consult with your vet to get a set worming schedule. Also ensure you've vacinated your horse for all of the necessary vacines to your area.

Most people I know do every two months or they use the daily wormer pellets. And yes many people in cold winter climates worm from April or May to October - November. Even May to November is fives doses. You could do a late spring/early summer dose and a mid to late fall dose to make sure he doesn't carry them all winter.

I worm every 2 months and I rotate wormers so that the parasites don't build up an immunity to the active ingredients.

I worm my horses about every 60 days. If you can rotate pastures in the summer and winter then the heat and snow will kill any larvea that way you don't have to do it so often.

We do wormer every other month but make sure that you switch brands often so that your horse doesn't build up an immunity to any kind of dewormer.
