The ship was supposed to be the peak of maritime engineering , luxury design, and "unsinkable". Thousands died when the ship sank, and mystery surrounded what actually happened to cause the ship to sink..iceberg, torpedoe..and so on. It was in living memory for a long time, and like many disasters and horrific events, it remains in the memory of people because it affected so many. Think of 9/11 as an event that that has greatly affected the world now, just as the Titanic's sinking did in 1912. about 1500 people died when the Titanic sunk, and there was much heroism in the aftermath also, Just as in 9/11,

Because of the many mistakes that were made, like how the upper class were allowed on the lifeboats first,of the constant boasting of the titanic being unsinkable,and of there not being
enough life boats.It does, in a sense, represents greed in the most extravagant light .

Because it is a major milestone in our history. It made drastic changes to the ocean liner industry, in terms of safety. It was also an enormous contradiction of what they were boasting. They kept claiming the Titanic was unsinkable, and yet it was sunk, on its maiden voyage, on its way to America. In addition to that, it was the biggest ship ever built and was, and still is, the biggest shipwreck in history.
