I think that depends absolutely on the music.Pick the music, close your eyes and let your mind point you in the right direction. There is no right or wrong color here.I'm sure that jazz and punk and classical music would all inspire very different colors.Trust your own vision of where the music takes you.

Music evokes so many different moods that you can't pin one color on it. So,..
If this is a school program, go with the school colors.
If it isn't, go with a white or yellow background. Generaly white banner material is less expensive so if cost is a factor go with white.
It's more important to pick out the right font. Dauphin, Lithograph, Magneto, and Ravie are nice fonts.

Yellow is the color of inteligence. Music hits the brain spreading emotions to the soul. So, I believe yellow would be appropriate. But remember, the fonts should be clear, easy to read.

Well, the musician should use their talents to showcase their music, they shouldn't use the music to showcase their talents. So how about making the background black and using mostly white for ledger lines, music notes, and words, and use hot pink or lime green outlined thinly in white for a word you really want to stand out?
Hope I helped!

well music usually has many layers and different parts.
Music is known to be diverse.
Rainbow (if you don't feel like doing this, just pick a random bright and exciting color, like orange or pink, not like gray or brown)
