You probably meant carbon dioxide.

And yes, there are great machines for doing this called "plants."

The trouble with machines is that they require power to run them. And producing power will produce more carbon dioxide if we use the methods of production which we do at the moment.

We already have things that convert CO2 to O2 - they're called plants. These are only temporary, because when the plant dies, it rots and its body goes back to CO2. A better solution is coral reefs, which take CO2 and turn it into coral, which is permanent. Unfortunately no-one has shown much interest in coral reefs up to now, and they are all dying due to the amount of pollution in the seas.

Its really not that simple, a certain chemical reaction must take place to convert carbon monoxide to oxygen and a by-produce would have to form. I believe the energy it would take to do this and the waste products produced would just be to much a price to even attempt this.

Even more important than land plants is marine algae and bacteria. Fertiliser is cheap. Only down-side is it would mean the killing off of a large chunk of the oceans life...

Or you could put something in to the atmosphere to reflect back a very little bit more of the suns heat, like dust or big mirrors... and hope nothing goes wrong with it.

I prefer your plan.

You must be a genius. I agree, why don't those lazy scientist get off their arses and do this? And maybe change chicken manure to chicken salad after they finish the oxygen/carbon thingy.

any machine that could do that would require fuel to run that machine. It would have to produce more o2 then it burned to run the machine to be effective.Unless you could do it with a filter or some natural converter that required no fuel or 02,it would be self defeating.

Thank you , Curt!! I vote for your answer! BTW, plants will grow faster and larger when co2 levels are increased.

This machine exists, and is called tree.
