A nucleus is some entity at the centre of something larger. The obvious example of a nucleus is the body at the centre of a cell that controls the whole cell. An atom also has a nucleus - this is the place where most of the mass of the atom is concentrated, consisting of protons and neutrons. A club or an association can have a nucleus - this is the group of members who are always present and who never fail to attend meetings.
