When I've tried everything and I know that I just can not sleep (mom needs a ride, in laws need help, house needs cleaning, gotta work, I know, busy life, how in the world I have time to be here I don't know), I take the pills. I was fortunate to find that my local Dollar Tree sells them. They are called "Stay Awake" and they work very well. I was not able to sleep for three days at one point because life was so chaotic, and each time my lids started to drop I popped one of those and I was ok. I didn't even look tired. Or try No Doz. They work good too, from what I've heard, but this dollar stuff really works great.

I walk around; go out and get some fresh air; go for a short drive (if I'm not too tired).

As a last resort if none of that works, I look in the mirror.

It scares the hell out of me and I'm good for another two hours.

My doc says, "STOP THAT, you've already given yourself 4 heart-attacks." But what the heck does he know?

Addendum:

I just remembered what Picasso, or was it Salvador Dali (sp), would do. He sat loosely holding a metal spoon or fork over a metal cup. When he dozed off, the noise of the object falling into the cup woke him up. I tried it a couple of times. It worked.

They sell things at the local minit marts, gas stations, etc. I took yellow jacket once to stay awake when I was a bartender and it works, but it gave me the shakes. There are lots of new products on the market now. I think there is even one called no doze. I would check my local walgreens or whatever you have in your area.

I would wash my face with really cold water every 5 mins.
It's terrible when that happens!! Also, I'd watch a good movie, some people get sleepy with movies, but if it's good, it would keep me interested and awake.

I drink cold water.

And I'll exercise, like do jumping jacks or sit-ups or pushups or something like that.

And I'll splash my face with cold water continuously.
