When I broke my ankle they made sure I knew how to use crutches before I left the hospital. It's true that some people have a mental block against it. The nurse who tested me out said that some people just can't or won't master it, usually (he said) older women who don't have a lot of confidence in their physical abilities. But unless there's a physical reason, you should be able to handle crutches if someone helps you to learn. You might also search the internet for brochures, etc. that hospitals hand out with released patients...

It is a trial and error thing,The hospital should have given you instructions on how to use the crutches,Contact the hospital and tell them that you have a problem in using them they will be able to help you.
Good luck...

i have used crutches before and you have to:
-make sure the things beneath your arm pits are even on each side or else they will slip from beneath you.
-to walk with them, crutches first then foot, crutches first then foot.move crutches at the same time. ALWAYS!
