I have worn balaclavas all my life starting as a child when my mother knit them. Here in Canada I wear balaclavas almost every day. I wear them in stores, malls, social gatherings. I have never had any negative comments. Many have been favourable.

Mixing the wearing of balaclavas with those of the police and the religious connotations taints the reality.

In a society where religious zealots blow themselves up with the intention of killing as many innocent men, women and children in the name of their god, its is understandable that society must protect itself. Like gang colors or any other dress of thugs, balaclavas adorning the heads of murderers should be banned. Since many women have now fallen victim of this religious nonsense, and are allowing themselves to become a common weapon, you have a choice. Instead of complaining about the police (who are protecting you as well, since your own people don't seem to care if you live or die either), why not use your energies to fix the problem? You want to have the freedom of wearing a balaclavas, then earn the right by encouraging the women wearing it to have enough respect for human life that they refuse to do what they are doing. I didn't raise my daughters to be murderers in the name of god, heads covered or otherwise. Why don't you practice what you preach?

It's good for hiding your face, so you can go and rob a bank. I have seen terrorists with them on too. I think I'd be alittle bit scared if I bumped into a man with a balaclava. It's not that cold here either compared to canada, so we don't really need them.

I wore one as a child but don't feel the need for one these days. I hadn't noticed that they were getting bad publicity. I suppose it's only a natural progression from hoodies.

Why don't you wear multicoloured or really bright coloured ones. Nobody would associate you with any other group except the clinically insane!
