do you really mean weathering or weather in general?

Weather in general, can effect buildings in may ways. It's effects kind of depend on the design and materials used. Most traditional homes and smaller buildings are made of materials that are very supsepitible to water damage, whether it is from rain, snow, floods or just moisture in the air. Commercial buildings made primarily of steel and concrete are less suseptible, although moisture can ruin concrete and cause steel to rust, it takes much longer usually.

A lot of sun also causes damage, especially on older buildings built before the effects of UV rays were widely known. Wind is also a factor, especially if combined with water. Tall buildings create their own up drafts and high speed winds near the top from rather mild breezes at street level. Since this is a geography project, I think you want to compare how different climates in different places cause buildings to be made differently, such as the heat and cold of the aussie desert where the people live underground to get out of the heat in summer and cold in winter. Houses in Hawaii are often made of very thin, light weight materials and built so that they have a bit of give when the winds kick up. they need little protection from cold, and most don't even have air conditioning as they count on the ever present trade winds for cooling. this project could get rather involved, depending on how much detail you want to get into. for further discussion, feel free to email me at tootall1121@yahoo.com.

acid rain is the biggest danger to buildings in city's. i work in NYC and alot of the older buildings are made of limestone or sandstone, the acid rain eats into the stone wearing it away. on buildings made of mostly metal its the same thing plus the metal corrodes and gets brittle. the best metal for roofs in buildings is copper or gold leaf. brick is very good but it has to be re-pointed hmmm like every 40 years or so, depending on where you live. the weathering part in stone makes it breakup and turn into sand, in metal it rusts away making the metal thinner, it oxides. i hope i've been a help kiddo... good luck on your report sweety

Weathering in general weakens rocks which form the foundations of buildings. It also deteriorate building materials by breaking them.
