There is no common rent. I live in Southwestern Pennsylvania. I just scanned the "for rent" ads in the Sunday paper. The lowest was $300 a month. The highest was $2,000 per month. The asking rent for one house is $2,750 per month.

It varies greatly from place to place. There are websites that will tell you average rent costs. Just do a search.

Central PA and Upstate NY - you can rent for $200/month. NYC or SF, rent soars into the $3000+/month for the most basic housing.
