If you saw a stranger being attacked in the street would you intervene even at the risk of being hurt yourself?

Yes I would intervene instinctively, I know this to be true because once whilst in South Africa I dropped someone off at the station and drove down a dark, quiet industrial street and saw a man pinned against the wall by two men with a knife at his throat, I got out of my car whilst keeping one leg in the car (ready for the off, admittedly) and shouted to a non-existent passenger to grab my gun, they ran off and I gave the bloke a lift home. When I got back I couldn't stop shaking, I hadn't stopped to think of the danger. I was also mugged and beaten up in a busy street and not one person intervened. I am a slight and petite woman and the two men assaulting me where big burly guys. It was a sustained attack and I wished someone had helped me. I think you should help

Most people might say they would help, but in reality they wouldnt. The first thing anyone should do is call the police - get back up before you intervene and then make sure there are no weapons in sights - you wouldnt want to get stabbed yourself. I once experimented with a girl friend and pretended to strangle her at a bus stop to see if anyone would stop. In fact one person did - and he was on a bicycle!

you talking about government intervention or in general? I think intervention is needed in some cases, depends really on the situation and circumstances.

Yes, as safe an intervention as possible. I would want to minimise the risk of my being hurt, and would generally not want to challenge if guns were being used.

Even distraction from what they are doing is an intervention, hopefully giving them a chance to rethink their actions.

Hope we never need to help someone!

It depends on the situation if I would physically intervene or not. I wouldn't hesitate to call the authorities in the case of mugging, rape, kidnapping etc not to mention, make a whole lot of noise including instructing the victim to fight back if a weapon isn't involved.

I would shout for help, too risky to personally intervene.
I could always hit the attacker with my walking stick but then i would get arrested!

I would do my best to get the attackers attention.. Cause I would hope someone would help me if I was in need.

Yes - perhaps not physically get involved, but I can certainly call somebody for help. I definately would not ignore it.

I'd intervene unless if it was obvious that it would get me killed.
