I don't even see how Barbie could be a role model. She's a doll for crying out loud. I played with Barbies more than any other toy as a child and I don't believe she has effected my self esteem in either a positive or negative way. Even as a child I was aware she was a toy with a very unrealistic life. ex: She had to care for her little sister, she was a rock star, a business woman, a bride, a chef, a princess... Not a very realistic life.
I very much disagree with models that are too skinny. For must, rail thin is an unattainable goal. The average woman is 5'4, 145 pds. We are teaching young girls that the only way that they could ever succeed in life is to be skinny. The only way to have great friends, get a quality guys attention, or get a great job is to be thin. But then men have the same pressure to be muscular. I look at myself, now 30 and 5'6, 145 pds. Back in high school I weighed about 135 and was very fit, but at the time thought I was big as a house. Feeling I should have weighed 115 due to models and actresses, greatly affected my self esteem. Thank God I not only had parents who put more value on the inside, but also a husband who fell in love with my body and all my other attributes.
Our society puts way too much into weight and the false reality of what is healthy.

I don't know, is Sponge Bob a good role model?
She's not as skinny as most of those ill models are. She's a toy to dress up, kinda like Mr Potato Head.
I don't think kids should have toys for role models.

I think barbie is barbie. the problem is girls look up to her as "who they want to be" not even realizing that barbie's body is SO unproportional. I think Barbie can lower girls self esteem if they aspire to look like her. Now, skinny models...hmmm I don't think its the question of me "agreeing" with them. I have to admit, I'm no size 1 and I'm definitely not six feet tall. I would like to see more normal size models. Don't you want to see what the clothes will actually look like on you, and not a toothpick?

No, and I think that anorexic models doesn't make sense, because not everyone is shaped like a twelve year old. THEY HAVE NO HIPS! and hardly any bust!
