Well they clean up our mess by providing necessary decomposition and recycling of organic matter. Without all the maggots in the world things would start to smell pretty bad. Flys also pollinate plants provide necessary population control through the spread of diseases and yes feed many other creatures... not just spiders.... birds, fish, insects, frogs, etc etc the list goes on. All in all flies do alot more good than humans do... they feed others control populations, clean up rotten meat and feces and recycle it back into the soil for plants to use, and they are incredibly interesting creatures in their own way.
All humans do is create garbage, pollute the earth, kill eachother, destroy nature and keep reproducing even though we are already overpopulated.. Tell me what do humans do that is as good as what flies do?? Do we clean up after everyone? do we feed other creatures? do we control our own population? no compared to flies we are fairly useless when it really comes down to contributing to the ecosystem and our planet.

All kinds of animals and plants spread (or cause) disease. I agree with some of what others have said. Flies (their larvae anyway) are beneficial to man and animals. They live in dung and feed off of it. Without flies, the world might very well become a dung-infested place.
This may be a bit off-topic.
True (dipterous) flies are two-winged, some of which have calypters (vestigial hind wings). They vary from the house fly and horse fly to the mosquito and gall midge.
However, lots of insects are called "flies". These are butterflies (order Lepidoptera), dragonflies & damselflies (both order Odonata), sawflies, gallflies, ichneumon flies, chalcid flies (all order Hymenoptera), fireflies (order Coleoptera), mayflies (order Ephemeroptera), stone flies (order Plecoptera), caddis flies (order Trichoptera), scorpion flies (order Mecoptera), and white flies (order Homoptera). These all have four wings.
Only the true flies (order Diptera) have two wings. Moreover, like sucking lice and bird lice, some of these flies are degenerate forms having no wings at all. The bat tick, sheep tick, and horse tick are true flies without wings.

Maggots! Maggots eat dead or rotten things, so it helps clean up our world. "Gross" animals or insects always have a place in the food chain if you look for it. Maggots are also used by Dr's to help heal open soars on patients that won't close. Maggots only eat dead and rotting things so when they are placed on a wound they eat any dead or infected flesh, cleaning the wound and making room for new healthy tissue growth. Medical maggots are kept in a sterile environment and they are very clean. There is no danger of cross contamination or contracting new infections from medical maggots.

Flies provide little or no benefit to man, but do play a part in the food chain and whether we like it or not, they transmit many diseases like diptheria, which is natures way of maybe keeping us humans under control?? I think God has a sense of humour and likes to watch us silly mortals do the fly dance as we wave our arms around like madmen!!

They put they eggs in dead matter, larvae maggots eat the rotting matter and they in turn excrete what they dont need ( like we do, but tinier haha) that refuse goes back to the soil or ecosistem and in turn help brake down nutrients other organisms need to live, like plants do. Like protein compost makers, I guess.
