Strictly speaking, a feeling can't be "confused." But we can!

Feelings originate as reactions in the limbic system, which triggers the hypothalamus to inject hormones into the bloodstream which causes a myriad of whole body reactions - rapid heart rate, visceral tightening, sweating, skin tone, muscle tension, focused perception - which register in the cortex at the sensory strip. When mixed with thoughts, these emotions become feelings.

These feeling-thoughts are associated on the right side of the cortex, while analytical and logical houghts are coordinated on the left side. In other words, we can have feelings and thoughts about feelings at the same time. These two can be inconsistent and in conflict with each other. In other words, we can "lose touch with our true feelings."

This can be confusing to US. So, you're right. We can have thoughts that contradict our true feelings. William Faulkner called this "the human heart in conflict with itself," and was the core theme of all his novels.

This is what really happens "up there" in the brain. That business about "levels" sounds like fun, but it's not what's really going on. There are no levels, physically speaking.

Yes this may happen ...

There are different levels of conscious (i) Mind (ii) Intellect (iii) character

Mind is the gateway of thoughts - it is the first level

Intellect is the second level depth - it helps us to decide our action or feelings - it is based on various impressions

Character is the third level depth - it is very deep it is the result of so many previous thoughts and actions - it is not the result of instant thoughts - many same type of thoughts constitute and form a hard substance in the shape of character or personality

The feelings produced from the deep third level may some times be very good or some times bad. When these deep third level or second level feelings are coming out, the first level thoughts generally helps to implement it into actions or practicality.

However if our mind is not clear or has lot of misunderstanding or negative feedings or waste thoughts or lack of concentration then the inner feelings while coming out are being overlooked with the clouds of so many ambiguity thoughts prevailing in the first level.

So the more clean and clear our life is the more effective results we can enjoy. Values, Divine wisdom, Meditation are very much helpful ... just clean the mind screen so that you can see and feel what is needed and what is NOT needed

All the best

sure its your brain trying to tell you the right thing to do, but your heart fights it, sometimes even though we know what would be the best for us, isnt always what our heart will allow, so it becomes this inner battle, keep fighting it your brain usually takes control before your heart makes a bad choice for you, at least it tries to
