There is ALWAYS a possibility for a woman to become pregnant unless she is pre-pubescent or several years after going through menopause. However, the risk is lower the first 48 hours or so after each cycle, due to the fact that the uterine lining has 'flushed itself out' and become very thin; making it more difficult (but not impossible) for a fertilized egg to attach. The heavier the flow, the thinner the lining will be afterwards. Be cautious though, because although it may not result in a full term pregnancy, tubal preganancy or an egg attaching to the wall of the fallopian tube is more likely, and much, much more dangerous.

A womans menstral cycle goes for 28 days, the first 7 days are when you get your periods, then a week after that on the 14th day is when you ovulate and for a 24 hour period before and after you ovulate you have a chance af getting pregnant. Of course there are woman who may vary from that slightly, but that is the general rule.
