No... it was a mausoleum. It was privately funded so it really doesn't matter if it was a waste or not. The waste is in the fact that it was never finished. The children were told to build a duplicate mausoleum for him directly in front of the Taj Mahal in black marble. The positions would have had the two reflections merging in the reflection pool. But the kids spent all the money on trivial things and never went through with their father's death wish.

Yes - its absolutely waste to waste that much of public money for one persons personal feelings.

If that giant construction was for any practical benefit of the public our the nation then it would have been OK for me, but just to 'show' physically you spend (err .. sorry i should say as waste) that much of money is a mere waste.

Also there is a dark story behind it, that is
* after the completion of the construction, it is said that the rulers have invited all the main workers to a place and their fingers were brutally cut off so that they will not work for any others to build any better construction.
* it is also said that the place where it was built was a huge Hindu temple and it was demolished / modified in a gigantic way to resemble tajmahal and the secret was tried to be buried for a long time and was tried to remove from the records of the history

They sure might have acquired sin and cursing

No I do not, Money is nothing compared to the love one can have for another. Money is material, Love is ethereal. Can one say that Love is a waste of time? Only if you are a really sad individual.
