Here is a checklist:
- battery is dead
- UPS is turned off
- battery is not connected inside
- pc is plugged into the wrong socket (with some UPS devices, there are several outlets, some marked as "surge protected" and others provide battery backup.

Do some simple testing.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

What type of battery back up unit are you using? I use APCs and have never had a problem. I alsolikethe fact they have one side that is just a surge protector for less important stuff.

Do you have the battery shifted to reverse? For your battery to back up, you need to do this.
