Why are politicians in the philippines not sincere with running the government fairly and in favour of the poor, instead they all work for themselves and their own pockets and benefits. Movie stars and famous people run the government sometimes people without knowledge or education let alone running a country. The ordinary people in the country are being duped with famous politician/movie stars. These politicians takes advantage of people's poverty and needs.

I completely agree with you. Sometimes, election here in the Philippines is just like a money contest or popularity contest. Imagine, there are already how many actors in the senate, then there will still be some running this coming election! I think one of the major reason there is that huge majority of the population of the country are uneducated. Maybe they see in the movies that these actors are the ones who are heroes in the story, they also think that maybe, these actors can be heroes of their lives also. Maybe they think that these actor-politicians can really help alleviate their condition like what that do in their moves. But I think, people have learned from their mistakes during the past elections. I think that this coming election. people will vote wisely with out regarding of the popularity. At my age, I can't vote yet. But I really do hope that those people who are given the right to vote will not waste their votes over money or popularity...

because most filipinos give high regard to people in the limelight. Since in the past, most politicians were highly educated people, but they didnt run the government well nor solve the economic and social problems in the Philippines, so the Filipinos want to take some chances with these actors and actresses who seem to be sincere. it must be noted also that most of the people who voted for these politicians are poor and uneducated. These politicians, once elected take money for their own needs because they spend a lot of their own during the elections for buying votes...as far as I know, the Philippines had only one president who was a moviestar and that was Joseph Estrada. The president in the present is a well educated woman and very intelligent person.

That questions the core value of the majority of the population in the Philippines. Sad to say, the masses are astonished by the glamor and lies of these movie star or famous people, but not all. There are still the thinking masses. Unfortunately, elections are won by number of voters not quality of voters. It is very difficult to organize and just put common sense to the masses because it is said that the Filipinos lived in a convent for 500 years and now in Hollywood ther after. As of now there are no corrupt politician, movie star or famous person that was executed for corruption. This is a sad note.

The Philippines still has a great deal of corruption in both politics and the economy to deal with.

It's a good thing they have a free press, and the Manila Times is a good, informative paper.
