My God, I bet you're glad you said right at the start "assuming you take the tube of course" aren't you - what a waste of space it was!
ANYWAY, Picc line direct from Heathrow to Kings Cross usually takes 50 - 60 minutes according to the amount of passengers about, missed crew reliefs and signal failures!
(Of course, that's not counting the time you need to add for the Airbus and unnecessary line changes some people would like you to suffer - AND WHICH YOU MUST IGNORE!)

Rule of thumb when calculating the length of time to allow for tube journeys is to count the number of stops you will be travelling, then multiply by three. That's how many minutes you should allow. But I find that this usually works out to be an overly generous estimate and I only work on this principle if I'm flying or going to a job interview.
I've done this journey a few times and if I recall correctly, I would think you'd be looking at somewhere in the vicinity of 50 minutes.
You'll find that the time of day for this particular journey doesn't make a difference. The Piccadilly line one of the most reliable lines and seldom has delays. But the section between Earl's Court and Holborn is always busy, whether day or night, weekday or weekend.

The scheduled running time from terminals 1-3 to Kings Cross is 53 minutes (Piccadilly line direct). The frequency is 5 minutes. So allowing for time to get to and from the platform it should take an hour or slightly over (a little longer from terminal 4). Bear in mind that it will take you a few minutes to get from the terminal to the station, and allow a bit of time if you have to buy a ticket.

The Airbus service links to Heathrow Terminals from many west London hotels and Kings Cross and Euston main line rail stations. Departures are every 20-30 minutes with a journey time around 60-75 minutes. These services drop off at Terminal forecourts.
Fare: £7 one way, £10 return/round trip.
probably cheaper and quicker!

I'd give yourself about an hour as the picadilly line even off peak can be very slow from hammersmith to greenpark some times as the line is quite twisty and they've had speed restrictions on that stretch for years..its direct by the way

Well you would probably have to change from the picadilly line to the victoria line at green park, dont go in the direction of Brixton though! thats the wrong way!! Maybe looking at 1 hour id say, depending on how much luggage you have and how busy it is etc....
