Depends on what you are looking for in a venue. I prefer small, intimate places. Hate Arena venues (i.e. Wembley etc)! Typically you get bad sound and they are very impersonal (pass the binoculars...)
Have to say that I quite like the Shephards Bush Empire although the sound isn't too great.
The Islington Academy is pretty good - big enough to hold a decent crowd, small enough to not be squinting to see the band.
I heart ULU - love playing there.
Love The Good Ship in Kilburn for its quirkiness.
Brixton Academy is good for a large venue.
100 Club, 12 Bar, The Fly - all nice little places.

i love East Ham because it is sparkling and not in any respect overly populated like the realm I stay in. I stay in Hackney, major and its the most diverted position in London. you'll hit upon human beings from all round the international.

I love these guys, they put on a hellava show when they were here in the States so I'll have to conclude that they are the best in London as well!

i've seen a few at the brixton academy, it's great. you can get right to the front, then when you get tired there's seating at the back. its not too big or too small and the ceiling's fab
