The first part of the question answers the second, just to be pedantic. Perhaps it could be better phrased How many roads must a person walk down. Of course, it could also be a reflection of the genius of the songwriter, to put the answer where it was so obvious, and yet so easy to miss. I envy people who are so clever, like that.
A man walks down a road. He needs not walk any further, because I have already called him a man. Brilliant in it's simplicity.
