Old School - The Shinning is just classic, the soundtrack really made the film, plus you cant go wrong with a psycho Jack Nicholson.
Japanese - The Grudge. Just really well done with cheap effects. As creepy as it gets. The American version of The Ring with that dead chick in the closet really freaked me out. I couldn't sleep for days from that image.
Recent - Event Horizon scared the bejeesus out of me. A movie about a haunted spaceship that has been to hell really did a number on me. Got my imagination going way too much!
The Blair Witch Project was worth all the hype too! The actors seemed so honestly scared!!

Stephen King's IT !!! Not been able to look at a clown in the same light ever since. Being a fan of King's books and films and used to having scary things in them, it just goes to show how good an author he really is if a clown makes you see them in a different light.

For some strange and wonderful reason, it was the movie called, The Last Wave.
By the way, anyone remember, who directed this movie?
Also, I seem to remember that the actor who played Doctor Kildare, in the T. V. show, was one of the stars in this movie. Or perhaps I was so scared, that in retrospect, I seem to be asking,
"Is there a Doctor in the house?"

The 'Shining' starring Jack Nicholson - based on novel by Stephen King. I'm referring to the original movie version made in 1980. The television version made in 1997 wasn't nearly as scary.

Threads.
a nuclear war film
I do like demon/ devil/ vampire/ ghost movies, but - at the end of the day - they are just fantasy, like Disney animations or Narnia films.
When I was growing up in the 60's and 70's - the height of the cold war - Nuclear war was a real and present threat.
And now, with Pakistan, India, Israel and Iran joining the Nuclear weapons club, things are starting to look bad again

Birth of a Nation. It was the film that 100 years ago got a lot of the country into the KKK.

Not much into horror films, but Silence of the Lambs did it for me, particularly when Jodie Foster was walking around in the dark with the psychotic.

The original version of The Haunting. Its all in balck and white but there is no monster or 'special effects'. Its all suggestive with light and shadow and sound. I had to put the light on to go to the loo after I watched it. I have far too much imagination
