No-one under the age of 50. All the acts who are still pulling in the crowds despite decades of touring under their belts.

My first choice would be someone who is often derided these days but he was been in the business since he was 17 and is still going strong at 66. He has - to my knowledge - never taken drugs or been arrested. He is a very good role model for the young and works hard for charity. When he gives a performance, he really gives his all. He's still touring because I've just heard it on the radio. He is of course ... Cliff Richard.

Paul McCartney would have to be next because, his personal life apart, he and the other Beatles changed the global face of popular music for ever. He is a consumate professional and by all accounts; such a nice man. He lives by his ethics and is always - from what I've seen - well mannered.

Shame we don't have Freddie Mercury with us anymore because he was the consumate showman but the rest of Queen , Brian, Roger and John, would be at number three. They made rock accessible and got my brother and I agreeing on something.

I don't personally like the next three singers but they must have something because they are still going too. Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey and Rod Stewart. That would be my short list of the life time achievement award.

IRON MAIDEN.
For over 30 years of :30+ top 40 singles (at least 15 top 10)
12 top ten albums ( 3 No. 1's)
Numerous sell out concerts worldwide

And all of this without conforming to the likes of Radio 1 and MTV.

I'd say Bowie, but he's bound to have won before but if not him, how about John Cale of Velvet Underground fame?

His former band is one of the best EVER and his new solo stuff is great.

He's also a welshman, so he gets my vote!
