Modern Guzzis are actually pretty good bikes. The older ones did have problems with their electrical systems and the build quality was a bit poor - I know, I owned 4 four the cantankerous beasts!
However, they are very quirky and do not ride like most other bikes. The transverse V-twin can make them torque steer at low speeds, and the hefty Cardan shaft final drive can catch out unwary riders when slowing down quickly (it can cause backlash through the transmission).
The V1100 Sport is a great bike and will stand out in a crowd, but it's not really suitable for a new rider with little experience. Having said, that, if you can get a test-drive (never buy a bike without a test-drive...), try one and see.

I have ridden bikes for the last 35 yrs., various makes and models. I would recommend that you start with something smaller, one that you can take by the handlebars and pick it up when you get it on its side....because you will. It is good that you took the class, but it by no means makes you a rider. Every bike has its own particular characteristics and it just take time getting to know it well and even then it will surprise you on occasion.

Only buy a Moto Guzzi if you enjoy fiddling with electrics at the side of the road. I will say no more than that

at 500 lbs this bike will handle heavey on the turns due to the V engine. However it is a good bike. If your legs are long enough to keep the bike upright on a hill and slope, then ride whatever you want to.

Please think carefully before taking on something so powerful without experience.
No matter what size or type of bike, you're gonna come off it sometime and it WILL hurt.
Take care.
