The word Islam means "submission" and this is because Islam is a religion where one submits before the will of God (Allah). It is a religion that has been around about 1500 years or so. It has 5 principle things one must do such as prayer and pilgrimage. It was founded by a man called Mohammad who is revered as a prophet. A person who follows Islam is called a Muslim. They have a holy book called the Quran (also spelt Koran).

Islam is a monotheistic religion, meaning that the core belief is that there is only one God. Christianity and Judaism are also monotheistic. In Islam, you strictly adhere to what the Koran says in the hope that you will be favourably judged when you die and enter Paradise.

It is a way of life beyond spiritual belief. It has its own financial system (banking, taxes, welfare), inheritance system and many more.
Quoting taxes system: 2.5% of income are taxable. Distribution of collected taxes are distributed to different needies, example 12% of it goes to administration, 12% to the poor, 12% Orphanage etc
